Alice’s Ears

A Web Resource and Blog For Parents of Children With Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)

15 years ago now I started a blog to record our beautiful, and remarkable daughter Alice’s journey from the silent to the hearing world.

Alice was diagnosed with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) at around 18 months and now has two cochlear implants to help her to hear. She attends mainstream School and graduated from Auditory Verbal UK in Oxford two and a half years after she was first implanted. She still stuns us every day.

Alice’s younger brother, Oliver, was born in 2012 and within 24 hours we learned that the unthinkable had happened. Oliver too had inherited ANSD. And so the journey started again.

Along the way we have met many people, made many new friends and discovered how poor the accessibility of information is for Parents of children with ANSD. Understanding of the causes of the condition divides opinion and Parents are left wondering where to turn to map their way through this ever-changing land.

Alice’s Ears is now not only a diary of our experiences with Alice and Oliver – the highs (of which there have been many) and lows (of which there have been, thankfully, few) but also it hopefully serves as a resource for Parents and families on our journey. We can now also share journeys of other families navigating the wonderful world of ANSD here.

Do please feel free to contact us with any suggestions you might have for how we can improve the site or if you would like to share your story with us.
